hi Guys
Im new to the forum
i came across it while looking for info for my 1952 Star twin which i bought about 6 months ago
its pretty much original and was last used in 1964 (2 Years before i was born !!!! )
just had the Magneto rebuilt and the dynamo needs doing,but it can wait till winter.
As for now Im just riding it as much as i can.
Its not going to be restored just kept in its oily rag condition.
Ive also got rid of the siamese header(previously had a side car on it) and fitted a set of original pipes

going to keep it as original as i can
it will be getting a repaint over the winter
but only because some one has previously painted it with some knid of paint that is not resistant to petrol !!!

Not sure if you are interested mrshells but "The Classic Motorcycle" magazine did an article on a 52' Star Twin in the August 1991 issue.
You could try and find that issue or if you like I can scan it and e-mail it to you.

its now completley stripped and Im painting it for the summer but only painting whats black
I am using Japlac black from international paints and brush panting it ! Its really good paint
I did think of spraying it with 2 base coat and 2 pac laquer but thats not period !!!!!
and re wiring it
and having the dynamo re built
ill post some pics as it goes back together

Frame came back from bead blasting today and is having several coats of japlac black paint on top of 2 pac acid etch primer and as much high build as it need to be able to sand smooth
dynamo should be back in a couple of weeks from FTWs in Sheffield
Waiting for clutch and rear sprocket from Draganflys
I also bit the bullet and bought new chrome plunger covers and fork seal holders as the ones on the bike had been previously painted silver
also picked up the correct nos lucas dip/horn switch from the Newark autojumble on Sunday
So I will soon have all the electrical components ready to start wiring it with a new loom
just need to find some 6v halogen bulbs
that will pretty much tie thing up for this winter next winter i think Ill be rebuilding the wheels !!!!
Looking to be riding again by the end of March

Good stuff... another ten minuets and you'll be done! Did you find your six volt halogen bulbs? Paul Goff sells them, vast improvement! I need to get some for my Star Twin. I cant quite see in your picture if you have twin carbs? I'm working on mine at the moment while waiting for the tank to come back from the Chromers. I'm getting there but its slow process.

the 52 is a single carb model with silver tank ive been led to believe the reason for no chrome was something to do with a worldwide nickel shortage tell me about slow all ive done is brush paint mine and its took 2 months up to now should ready for MOT in about 9minutes and 10 seconds !!!  |

except the one where the halogen tail light bulb melted the tai light lens on the way home !!!
