hi all need some advice on were to get my timing side bush/crank clearance machined looking for some one within an hour of Gloucester or Bristol, don't want to go the SRM route nothing against them but would rather use a smaller more old school type of engineer. I am a toolmaker myself and i did one many years ago but now cant get homers done at work its called the recession or so my boss tells me many thanks Paul

I use a chap called Gary Bowden of Bowden Auto Engineering, Redfield Road, Patchway, Bristol. BS34 6PJ Telephone: 0117 9693355. He is very good with classic motorcycles.

bikerjohndavis sounds as though he has just the right place for you. Any Engineering Company can do it. C and D have a good range of undersizes bushes ready for boring. I like your word homer, where I come from we call them foreigners. All the best.

Glad I could help. It seems that the current thinking is to use a maximum oversize bush and grind the crank journal as little as possible to give it a good face then match the bush to it rather than take it down in 10 thou stages. This should allow the crank to survive longer.
