Has anyone had the elec starter fitted, that i have seen advertised in the STAR. Steve Mcfarlane fits these to A7/A10 i find it difficult to start my bikes now and was thinking this might be the answer to a few more years on the road?

My friend Richard who sometimes contributes to this board has had one fitted to his Super Rocket. I have seen his bike on several occassions and have never failed to be impressed by how well it works.

You can see the starter motor being demonstrated here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuvKy9l75u4

BearKat,

Using the "SEARCH" tab, (above, right below "Hello BearKat" and the picture or your bike) search for "McFarlane" (without the quotes). That is going to bring up several different discussions of the electric starter.

Yes I can fully agree that he is a very nice chap, brilliant engineer too.

Not sure if the starter is available for the plunger frame type engine. All that I have seen are on the swinging arm models. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you as I might be wrong there.

Hi All
Must be getting on for 18 months if not 2 years now with the electric starter and no problems, however LJ is correct in that it will only fit the swinging arm model as the starter is fitted to the rear engine plates and the small chain drive goes up between the gearbox and engine where the shaft then goes through the rear primary case.
Steve is a brilliant engineer, but i dont know about him being a nice chap though, Only kidding as I know Steve looks in on this site from time to time.

Thanks Chaps for your input, i have plunger and swing arm and its the swing arm bike that i am thinking about.I can see that the old f-rts among us could now be wearing leathers up to a ripe old age with this great mod, i will give it some serious thought, and  will enquire as to price over the next few days,
                                        Regards to all,

Unfortunatly i havn,t yet aquired an M20,but i did manage to obtain a matchless WD 350 ,which i also had the use of during my service. A pal of mine is keen to get his hands on my plunger, but i may be looking or an exchange for the said WD M20.

Thats a lovely looking plunger.... you should get a very nice and original M20 for that. Good Luck with your search for one as they are wonderful to ride as you may well know.

Looks like the elec starter is around £1200 fitted, + transport from N/lincs & return approx £1400 total. I reckon its not a bad price to stay on the road, there are plenty of elec start bikes for sale but none that would give me the pleasure of riding my Flash into the twilight years,
