Oil quantities in Plunger primary chain case and font forks

Hi Guys

The book seems to contradict it's self

I need to know how much oil to put in a 1955 A10 Plunger primary chain case and the front forks

From memory its 99cc in the primary and 180ish cc in each leg of the front forks. I've also come across something about oil levels (so many inches below the top or something like that) Sorry about the imprecision, but the correct numbers are in Roy Bacon's book, and I've lent my copy to a nearish neighbour who's rebuilding an early 50s plunger. The plunger capacities are much less than the swinging arm version, and Haynes is remiss in not saying so. I'm sure someone else on the forum will chime up with the exact quantaties shortly,

Terry, the easiest way is to find the special screw slot that will give you the correct level when screw is taken out. Note the rubber o ring on screw to prevent leakage after you put screw back.  

Edit: This chaincase is on my 49 star twin... I'm assuming the 55 chaincases are the same...Edit again!: Perhaps not as Muskrat mentions... But you can still check that screw slot.

 My '51 has that screw an assume all plungers do. What type of clutch does a '55 plunger have? Did it loose the cover and change to a swing arm type?

The service literature (at the bottom of the forum) states 100cc for the primary caincase. Where did you get the 115cc, Musky? 15cc shouldn't make too much difference, as long as the chain can dip into the oil and splash it all over all should be well.
