G'day chryslurr, welcome to the forum. lots of good A7/10 info here. Another sandgroper, there's a few here now. I gather you don't like Valiants. Cheers

Chryslurr,
Welcome. Thanks for posting the "before" shot. Looking forward to the rebuild story and pictures. Are you sure it's a '56? I thought rod-pull rear brake and solid swingarm spindles ended in '55. I'm being too lazy right now to go look it up.

Hi Chryslurr and welcome to the forum you will find plenty of help and advice here. A 1956 would have full width alloy Ariel type wheel hubs. Your bike has earlier type so check your frame and engine numbers and start from there. here's a youtube link this is a 1956 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuZbe-l_4bI

G'day lowbrowbsa, you will find you modify tools as you go along. I have special 5/16 spanner ground down around the ring and bent a little for that job. Hang on that sounds a bit rude, like I should live in Paddington. I also put a rule between the fins to stop the nut dropping. A previous owner broke the bottom fins so the nut drops right out. Cheers

gee those rocker bolts on the front can be a bastard Little bit of card slipped under the fin to keep the nut up is helpful, however the big thing I found is how useful the proper BSA spanner is for this job ( the combination spanner 4 in 1 type), it's short enough to get a good amount of turn on the nut without knocking the paint/powdercoat off the frame down tubes. It is a fiddle though

a update on proceedings. my appologies for slow response as i am not a big net person. now, after several sessions of sorting thru boxes, and copius amounts of neck oil, we have a fair amount of parts nearing ready to assemble. a fresh 20yr old +40 rebore well coated in grease at time of storage makes it like brand new new bearing, bush bigend shells, pistons, also a fair amount of a65 parts, wich will become a 66 spitfire after i find the rest of it. but back to the a10,most parts are in good nick, as i am only providing the place, inspiration, and fridge for the neckie"s it moves at the owners pace, i will post updates as we go, but cant say it will be regular like. and pics, cause i know we all luv pics i can feel a neckie commin on

Chryslurr,
I don't know what you're talking about, the tank looks ready to go.
On a real note, I was wondering if any of our members might know if engines made and stamped in '54 might have left the factory in '55 frames? Maybe only BSAOC can verify this.

Hi mate, nice to have another West Aussie on the site. I gather you have a swinging arm frame... plenty of front engine mounts for them turn up on eBay. Some on at the moment I think. just be sure and get the ones with 2 holes at the bottom. The plunger frames only have one. My basket case hybrid came with the wrong ones. Just checked. They are now on the bench in the shed waiting for you to come n pick em up. Next time you are going through to Bunbury, let me know. I am in Mandurah. They may need work done on em. (I Suspect they were butchered a bit before I got em I But would be at least a good start for a template. I'll spare ya the story about trying to fit a plunger motor to a plunger frame using SA front engine Mounts.... but the correct ones were divine after that game.

Hi again, a further fossick in the shed it has brought a decent rear guard to light... But: I would want to swap this for a similar condition front guard for a 51. if you are interested... let me know.
The tank... I took a carefully selected number of sharp blue metal stones from the side of the road, about a dozen or so, blocked off all holes in the tank after inserting them and some water, and had myself a very good shake rattle n roll session (enjoyed in isolation so I didn't get committed) and after a few goes the tank was closer to being ready for the next stage... cheaper way to start your job I suspect. just count the stones ya plonk in, and pray ya get the same number out... but if ya use too much neck oil during the dance routine.. ya might have more stones on exit. Enjoy.
