"Wozza" , I usually fabricate the damaged fin in mild steel then either weld ( cast rods) or braze in place then grind to follow the contour required .
Hope this helps ?

Wozza, It appears that the front rocker box holes are broken away as well. Maybe easier to find another head.

Steve... yeah I may have to go that way if I cant get a doner... Trev... that picture is of another head... mine is missing the 1st upright, broken infront of the plug hole & rear stud hole.. the rest of it is in good nick... I contacted a guy in Britain about the one pictured, asking to cut & send the piece, but he didnt want to cut it... & postage was over the top for the whole thing. Thanks for your input guys..

Best of luck . To be honest repairing that would be a doddle ..mild steel is fine , leave slightly oversize to allow You to grip the new fin , prep lightly and stitch weld (around 1inch a time ) working to the centre then grind flat . Finally grind around the edge to match fin below . Must have done teens this way ?

I have one you can have for the price of carriage from the UK but they're bloody heavy so I expect it'll be pricy. I needed it for one of the bottom fins but from memory the bits you want are OK.
I might be able to cut the bits you want if you're a bit more specific.....

iansoady... I need from the inside of the 1st left hand upright fin to the front of the plug hole... than beside the rear rocker hole... aprox like the 1st picture... I'm happy to pay postage for the piece...... & yes, your right postage of the whole head is more than the head is worth.. check my profile for email address & I'll give you a postal address. I'll pay you with paypal if that suits?
Thank you.... Cheers WozzA

Hi Wozza,
I could do that but it may be a while as I'm due to go into hospital to have a knee replaced - hope it's better quality than some pattern BSA parts (and fortunately left knee so kickstarting unaffected!).
So if you are in a hurry maybe I can let someone local have the head to cut (any volunteers?).
Otherwise it'll probably be around March as I'll be wobbling around on crutches for some time.

OUCH.... you got to be more carefull throwing the leg over mate... I'm not in a hurry for it, I think it's going to be a long term ( 2 years ) project, so im happy to wait... I'm collecting the obvious parts needed before I start the rebuild. I pulled the plugs & looked down the hole & to my supprise I can see new 020 pistons & a nice shiney bore with hone marks... also it's got new main bearings, & seals..so hopefully there might not be 2 much bottom end work needed ? I hope all goes well for you with the opp & recovery... Cheers WozzA

OUCH.... you got to be more carefull throwing the leg over mate. that brought a wry smile to my face, I had knee surgery many moons ago (just cartilage though), the surgeon said "it'll be weight bearing straight after" it was but not pain free as I found out when I swung my leg over the edge of the bed next morning, I still cringe with the thought. Hope it goes well iansoady

Wozza - Knee is running (well hobbling) in well so hopefully will be able to look at sorting the fin out for you shortly. Can you confirm you still want it and that you need it cutting similarly to the marked up picture ie through the 3rd fin in? My angle grinding skills can be a bit erratic sometimes.....

Wozza, I've got this head. Is it of any use to you. By the way, I've got no idea what a "Doner Head" is. Can someone please enlighten me.
Thanks Russ.

I've got no idea what a "Doner Head" The REAL story : Jim Doner, the world renowned racing legend from the 50's, did some pretty amazing modifications to his bikes. On his A10 he modified the head by adding 3inch valves and dispensed of the rockers by adding twin OHC's driven by electric motors synced to the magneto, the 'Doner Head' legend was born. I wondered too, if it was something very rare and special lol. But it's donor! to donate a fin.
