Engine rebuild??

Hello everyone, I'm after some advice on getting my engine rebuilt? I have a 1956 road rocket and after seven years of ownership I have decided to take her of the road for the winter so I can conduct a thorough restoration. The chap carrying out this work for me works for my family business, he is very able and a couple of years ago finished my dads 1934 model y ford! This project will be carried out during quiet days in the workshop, so to help this project along and so she is not of the road too long I may get the engine rebuilt? My question to you all is where would be the best place to go for this, the engine will be removed from the bike and all the ancillaries will be removed such as mag/ carb/dyno,I live in the bath area so if there is somewhere local that would be even better! The engine itself runs but leaks alot of oil ( I think connected to the oil breather) so I'd rather get it stripped and sorted before fitting it back in the newly painted frame, Hope you can help!

I know srm have a good reputation for there engine work, but I've also heard that they know how to charge???

Probably nothing wrong with the engine. It's  probably wetsumping or a stuck checkball in the return pickup tube as usual!

Why not get the rebore and pistons ,regrinds/endfeed mod ,D/Side mainbing endshells and rod bolts from SRM and then let your guy do the rebuilding .I did after a gap of working on BSA'S of over 35 yrs ,they gave me  excellent help and advice and I thought there enginerring charges weren't that far out. i can still ring up now nearly 9 yrs later and still get to speak to them for help. You get what you pay for or you pays your money and takes your chances ,Best wishes Bobh.

Hi, I also live in Bath and use a chap called Gary Bowden of Bowden Auto Engineering, Redfield Road, Patchway, Bristol. BS34 6PJ Telephone: 0117 9693355. He has rebuild my A10, A7 and B33 bottom ends as well as a number of other jobs such as repairing my Commando exhaust threads and oil seal conversions on Triumph and A10 timing covers.

Gary and his son Stuart are well known in the area and can undertake most engineering jobs. Cheers, John
