Hi folks, just thought i'd introduce myself, and apologise straight away for the seemingly daft questions i have yet to ask. This is my first ever brit,as i have beeen mainly japanese orientated, i currently have 2 gen1 vmax a 98 and 02 also a 96 rt1100 for tramping about on. I am based near heathrow and according to my children "getting on a bit" but what do they know. I have just acquired a black(handpainted) 650 twin , a10 or a7 not 100% sure,it would appear to be a mixture. It has a late 1958 frame prefix FA77458 ,but i can't workout what the engine is from Prefix ca7837 which would suggest a 1961 a7 not sure havent quite worked it out, but also has "brs 1176" stamped on it - havent a clue. the tins and tank seem to be a mixture of years also, i look forward to finding out a little more as time goes by. It has the obligatory seep (nothing too major though). i have yet to get the knack of starting it. But it does start and runs pretty well once warm, and puts a stupid inane grin on my chops.-- perfec

Hi Welcome to the forum.
Engine N0: CA7-101 1954 and CA7- 1501 1955 so I think you a 54 engine in a 58 frame.
Do you full width hubs (cast) or single sided?.
I sure some one will be able to help.
Regards Nick

G'day tenko, welcome to the forum. Does it really matter what year it is as long as all the parts fit and she goes. lots of things mix and match over the model run. A few pics will give us a good idea as to what you have. And I'm sure you will enjoy it. Cheers

Hi and welcome Tenko, I agree with Nick on the frame being a '58, but I think the motor is a '60 (CA7107-8501). Might make a difference with the part no's! Hope you enjoy the trials and tribulations the bike will undoubtedly bring you.

My apologies for not making these piccies thumbnail size , i should have read the information on piccies first. It wont happen again.
adm edit: These are no problem at all, the thumbnails rule is for large pictures. Thanks for the consideration. btw, members can edit their posts to make small corrections or adjustments.

HI there Welcome to the site bit surprised to hear that your tank is leaking as it looks to be in good nick that should be your first priority as petrol and electrics don't mix particularly if it drips on to the magneto. If it is just weeping it could be sealed with a tank sealer but make sure you use a sealer that is ETHANOL proof.

Hi Tenko Had the same problem in the same place with my first Flash, sent it to "The Original Tank Doctor" for repair, re chrome and paint . Speaking to him he remarked the split in that area was a result of running without the front tank strap. He is no longer trading, not sure why but it took a long time and lots of phone calls to get my tank back He also sealed the tank with a pinkish stuff that so far has resisted any Ethanol effects - no idea what it is though All the best with it - Bill

Good afternoon Tenko, Right after you remove the tank I'd make that brake your first job, a friend of mine ignored exactly the same noise and ended up off the bike when the front wheel locked ,I think it was a broken or very worn/loose return spring , best wishes Bob H

Hi Tenko Before you take out the front wheeel check if there is a movment in the brake plate locating slot and fork leg lug, some can be very worn should be a snug fit.
Regards Nick

Also (if it's the later type wheel) if the big nut holding the brakeplate isn't absolutely tight it can flop around a bit.

Spot on iansody, big nut had vibrated loose, stopped clonking noise, hasn't improved braking function tho. Think i'm getting a little more used to it tho, done about 60 or so miles today, showing off my new toy. Most were impressed, others (well one of them), "why on earth--blah blah". I was going to let him have a go,but then i thought nah his loss not mine. Just waiting for manual to come through,to start the learning process.
