muskrat, it isnt really a specific model, the story goes my father bought the bike amongst other boxes of bits from his friend who moved abroad a few years back. He hasnt got round to doing anything with it so I have taken it on.
Back in the 60s and seventies the bike was built as a cafe racer, and had a long line of modifications and trials.
The engine was in a featherbed frame, then that got nicked but the engine was retrieved. The engine was then put in a b31 swing arm frame (thats the bike now passed to me), and tricked up with lightend rockers, polished conrods etc etc. Theres evidence of many trials such as one timing cover having a breather hole drilled and a pipe attached in order to ditch the timed breather. Theres a set of barrels bored out to take bonniville pistons, they dont quite have as much compression, but do give an extra 35cc so im told, Amongst other "go faster" attempts.
I aim to use as many of the parts as I allready have, to build a similar bike to what it was used for in the 60s/70s, while tailoring the bike to how I want it
From the bits, my build plan is - very roughly bear in mind.
engine:
Based on a7 engine, theres a set of ss cases that il use.
standard 500cc barrels with high comp pistons
twin carb alloy head and SR/RGS valve springs, im told those springs will fit??
Twin concentric mk1s
Timing cover with the rev counter on the side (what model is that from again?)
Frame:
Fibre glass petrol and oil in one tank, will leave off the toolbox so the frame is pretty much open.
Goldstar single sided front hub, and crinkle rear on 18" alloy rims.
Will have ago at making some goldstar headlight brackets.
Clip ons, Rearsets
Fibre glass seat.
Simese pipes to fit the megaphone that was on the bike.
So after all that jibba jabba, basicly its an a7 engine, b31 frame, cafe bike.
As to what model, Since the cases are ss, im guessing once upon a time it was indeed a shooting star.
