Hi everyone on the forum, I have been looking at posts and wow! there is a wealth of knowledge and a lot of good humour. I live in south France (Catalonia nord) and there is not many Brit bikes around here. Back in time (when god was a boy) I had a 1969 Starfire and as you do, dreamed of somthing bigger and faster. Now after 40 odd years I am getting a '61 A10. I can't post a picture yet as I have not picked it up yet, happens next week *smile*can't wait. Will post later to tell the tale. Alf

Welcome from the north west Alf. Are you importing the A or is it something you've found here in France?
Whichever, it's a great place to run and ride classics, even if there are signs of some tightening of the relaxed regime we've enjoyed for years. Plus you'll have a climate to go with it, whereas we just get 'weather' where I am!

Alright mate,do you have a small sleeping space for this poor chap down there(preferable in the june/july time).He is also partial to champers and cooked pigeon.Please help the needy in these hard times (preferably in june/july).Also in possession of a non greek passport.

yes welcome i always wondered how the terminology frogs came into for french people - i of course have heard it, but never figured out why - yanks for yankee's, brit's for british people, thugs for Australians - all makes sense but frogs?? maybe if you touch one you get warts or something?? hum have to think about it i guess |

if we are all descended from criminals.......... criminals - a relative term, some who were deported were not criminals as we use the term today, they were just not liked by the establishment (Tolpuddle ), now do you have room down there for an ex Defence Minister and few of his friends? Welcome to the forum, Alf. I've spent lots of years in France, it's a fine country indeed (sorry for the posts drifting offtopic, btw, I have never seen or met any french eating such ehhh... "food", but some does, yes). "My" location when I'm there, see http://www.audioworld.net/BSA/forum/index.php/topic,411.0.html for some pictures, and have been in the Pyrenees lots of times. You may know Collioure & the road along the coast into Spain ?  |

Sorry to be slow to reply, however thank you everbody for a warm welcome I have picked up the bike plus a spare bottom end,cylinger head and a few other spares. It is a '61 golden flash with a SRM bottom end,bigger valves and 8.5/1 pistons. So it's a little warmer than standard. The guy I got it from has owned it from the late 60's I also got a lot of original tech sheets, need to sort them out! The Tank has a coat of spray black to preserve it, not sure if there is chrome underneath!! The bike has been laid up for 8 years so is in need of some tlc. A good point is it fired up first kick and is sweet as a nut, hopefully a picture is enclosed. when I have some time to make a start on it I will give a more accurate account of the bike and progress. Un fortunatly I don't have room to hide any retiring politicians,people as poor as me or disguised world leaders. however next year when the house I am working on is finished it might be a differeft case.Just to prove it's not the romantic view of the medditeranen it's cloudy and raining on and off, however the wine is ok and the escargo butties are wonderful (can't abide snails) There are some wonderful roads around here and the scenery can be breath taking. the area is the Aude, the Tuchan/Paziols area where I live is a busy wine growing area producing Fitou and Merlot among other wines. More later I should get on with doing some work TTFN Ps |
