Securing the Lighting Switch - "Diving Helmet" type

Have just returned from a frustrating time in the garage..

When I first looked inside the nacelle area (Diving helmet design) I saw the lighting switch was held in place by a cable tie..  "what a bodge" think I, "must get a proper clip".
So at Shepton a while back I got the "proper" securing clip, an odd shaped octoganal (kind of) piece of stiff wire..

Now, after scratching the front mudguard as I wasn't watching the headlamp bowl, grazed knuckles, wires which I've forgotten the order they fitted, sky high blood pressure and by some miracle an undamaged (and possibly original) switch I'm no farther forward..

Before I reach for a cable tie is there a way to get this piece of s**t to fit or was George Prew (vendor) just having a laugh??

yep it does fit, not easily but it does fit.

My method - Clip the straight bit opposite to the two end bits into the slight depression on the bottom side of the switch then push each end in turn into the depression on the top side of the switch (with a screw driver)

I hadn't noticed the slots in the switch - there are several on mine.  I've just been out & fetched the clip & I can't get the slots to line up with the clip which isn't remotely flat in profile either.. Either the clip or switch is wrong maybe? I reckon it'll be the cable tie after all....

              The clip isn't supposed to be flat. It exerts spring pressure against the cowl which holds the switch tight.

I've had another swear at it & Bill was correct as always, I finally found out the way that the clip fits.. All I've got to do now is try & fit the thing with the nacelle in situ & without damaging anything in the process - wish me luck...

I've had simiar problems with that bent piece of wire. Ended up putting a couple of small dods of araldite inside the cowl to hold the switch. Jus small bits, so I can free it off easily by a sharp tap with a wee hammer or peel it off with a scalple or other sharp intrument.
