Uploading pictures:
Near the bottom of the posting screen you will find Attach to the right and the "Browse" button to the left, see it here. Click "Browse", and navigate on your pc to where you have saved the pic, select it.
For uploading, format is .jpg only, max file size is 600 kb, max 3000 kb pr post & max 5 pics pr post. Recommended pixel size 500 x something (a small part or detail) to 1200 x something (for example a full bike picture), file 100 to 400 kb.

That's it really, it will get uploaded to the forum server, and appear in your post at the bottom. For more pictures in the same post, click the "more attachments" link to the right. See recommendations below.

Avatar:
Use a .jpg, best is to prepare the avatar yourself  (size, color, sharpen), although the forum program will resize to max pixel size 175 x 175. Filesize over 600 kb will fail, like with attachments. I recommend the filesize to be under 75-100 kb. & let's keep this place relaxing for the eyes and mind, no animated avatars or signatures, please!

Picture database:
If you use a picture database on the internet, see this post: thumbnails only, please.

And let's keep the forum relaxing to the eyes and mind, no animated avatars or other animated stuff please. Thanks.

--------------------------

I recommend uploading pictures to the forum, this creates a small clickable thumbnails, and pictures do not disappear from the topic if you make changes to your picture database, etc.

For larger pictures than 600kb (I am talking file size, not pixel size!), use your picture hosting site, and link to the picture from the post. Please do not link to some 5 mb pictures and the like, 100% unnecessary and counterproductive for screen use! If anyone wants the original for scrutiny or large printing, ask the poster to provide an original by email. Use of the image hosting thumbnail function is highly appreciated and recommended.

--------------------------------------------

I sometimes edit posted pictures to make best use of the thumbnail function of the forum, or tp shrink the filesize. Here is a free small but very good program for resizing and much more: http://photofiltre.en.softonic.com/

When posting, I usually save any picture(s) ready to be posted to the pc desktop, easy to navigate there and select it.

I sometimes take the liberty to modify external picture links into clickable thumbnails, thus saving the pic to the forum server. Example of post with disappearing external pictures, looses it's meaning if the pictures are not longer there, in this one I managed to save some of the missing pictures (I saved the original pictures): http://www.audioworld.net/BSA/forum/index.php?topic=127.msg447

Welcome if you have more questions.

I see neither "Attach" nor 'Browse" near the bottom of the post screen, Erling.
However, "Attach" appears below this dialog box and I'm trying it now.

Hello, doesn't your post screen look like this? the Attach and Browse should be very visible, you figured it all out anyway. Nice bike you've got there  smile

I have a problem when I post photos. When I right click to paste the URL it moves the cursor so the URL does not end up between the "(img]" and "(/img]" bits. I suppose it's easier to just type those bits in manually. confused

I'll second the comments about the bike, it's nice and the blue tank just makes it a bit different than the usual Goldie.

Found this on the internet.
Uses Windows XP to reduce jpeg file sizes. Someone might find it handy.

Step1.
Locate the JPEG file you wish to resize. Select it and right-click.
Step2.
Find the "Send To" tab, and locate "Mail Recipient." Click on this.
Step3.
A new window titled, "Send Pictures via E-Mail" will pop up. The two options listed are "Make my Pictures Smaller," or "Keep the Original Sizes." Select "Make my Pictures Smaller" and hit "OK." NOTE: For more detailed compression options, click the "Show More Options" tab in the bottom left-hand corner of the window. You can choose between three possible reduction rates. Hit "OK" when finished.
Step4.
An e-mail message will pop up with your resized JPEG as an attachment.
Step5
To save a copy of your resized JPEG file, go to the "File" tab in the top left corner of the e-mail message window, and select "Save Attachments." Choose the location to save the new file and hit "Save."
Step6.
Shut down that email. and send the saved file to whoever.
cheers

Okay... It seems a few of us are having problems with pictures being too large to upload. Here is a very handy little program by Microsoft that will resize the pictures by making them much smaller, so its safe to download this piece of software, its only very small.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/learnmore/tips/eschelman2.mspx

Once you have downloaded that and installed it onto your computer you then are able to attach the picture into your message as the picture will then be under the 600KB size. Read the instructions on clicking that link, you'll find you can use it for many other applications even in ebay when selling things.

While I've happily uploaded a number of pictures, I'm now getting an error message every time I try, says must be a JPG or GIF but wont accept either...and under the size limit too. Not sure quite why...

adm edit: Thanks for posting about it. There was a config error, fixed now.
