Mikuni or Amal?

So I have recently acquired a 1952 A10 that has a Mikuni carb installed.  I'm just starting to sort the bike out but
I'm debating as to whether or not I should replace it with the correct Amal 276.  I'm not in any rush to do so, but
at some point I'm going to do a complete restoration. 

So what type of experiences have people had with the Amal 276?

Hi, can only say that a 276 in good shape, properly jetted & no leaks works very good, at least for me, & I like the looks of the 276. But a worn 276 is a source of all sorts of problems, f.ex. watch your float level and float needle etc, catching fire is a possibility (the magneto is directly underneath). In this context a mikuni is a security item, at a price of lost originality.

I have found the 276  no problem but i must admit the fire risk is there,as both of my BSA's like to be "tickled " to start, so suggest a drip shoot be added to get the excess fuel away from the magneto

Can anyone advise on Mikuni jet sizes, settings etc for a Super Rocket?
I have one off a japanese trailbike that is very close in size for my bike.

The bike's a bitser... built from bits, for riding, so originality not an issue.
Compared with a Mono or concentric, a Mikuni is thing of real wonderous beauty! No rattly scored, sticky slide made of dogmetal etc!

I have a Mikuni on my Super Rocket and have only praise for it
Theres a bit more than jets involved in the transplant you are considering!!
There are a miriad of Mikuni needles emulsion tubes and so forth not to mention slide cutaway to select

I must agree with chaterlea25 I fitted the mikuni to my 61 s/r purchased from Allens and it is superb,with only one small problem which I will sort out sometime, and that is when it has been stood idle for some time I have to blow up one of the breather pipes to get the fuel flowing, apart from that the response is soooo much different than an amal, I will not be putting the amal back on

hi i have a 389 brand new from surrey cycles had no probs
ticks over nicely i think for looks the amal looks better i had a mikuni
and i didn't like the look of it like an add-on part there also made a lot better than they where
in the good old days and fit a drip shield much safer
