Thought I would change my signature picture from the 'cafe scene somewhere in the mountains of Hungary' to actually show my RGS rep. I like the bike a lot and it's an interesting comparison with my two ballistically powerful 160+bhp bikes, a '06 Ducati 999S and a '06 BMW K1200R. There's something like a half a century of bike evolution between them. I appreciate all three in their own way, but particularly though modern ABS, servo brakes, electrically adjustable suspension etc. especially on cold, wet nights in traffic.
Some of my classic bike friends hate modern bikes and some of my modern bike friends can't see the point of riding classic bikes. Me? I like them all!
Anyone else with old and modern bikes on this forum? If so what do you ride?

I've got a Honda RC45 as well as a couple of Honda NSR250 race bikes that live along side my BSA's and Panthers. In fact I use a Panther almost everyday for work.

It would be hard to choose one over the other bike I like having the selection and enjoy them all. The classics are great fun and head turners but I like trackday/racing on the modern stuff too. Horses for courses and all that.

I have a modernish (?) 02 Bonneville , definitely not 160hp , but has electric start & disc brakes & does everything reasonably well.
My other bike is a 42 Harley 1200 cc Sidevalve and with foot clutch & handshift & drum brakes and you have to be totally involved in riding it. And really watch your following distance ... brakes are not brilliant.
Chalk & cheese , but both good fun.

I have a Hinckley Triumph Tiger 955i which is a superb bike although a bit on the tall and heavy side. I use it mainly for longer trips such as touring France, as my ageing back, knees and wrists were protesting at my previous long-distance machine, a Norton Commando.

My modern is a 1000s Moto Guzzi. Not sure if it still can be considered modern though, I bought it new in 94', 17 years ago now. Terrific bike, I love riding it now as much as I did the day I bought it.

My "modern" bike is a kawasaki Z1A 900 1974 vintage, like the bikes I wanted but couldn't afford in my youth. Its big and heavy, the brakes aren't too great but it's good on motorways and fast roads. it's got electric start, mirrors and indicators. I still prefer to ride the old A10 though, I cant help thinking the japanese's got too many cylinders.......
