$$$$
my understanding was the comp mag's were "more" hand built w/ tighter tolerances and tighter QC than regular mags

A red manufacturers tag!
The competition mag has a "squarer" body, larger slip ring end bearing [o.d], screw on pick-ups, screw on end with or without a breather.
The armature is interchangeable with the standard one, as long as it is one with the 18mm drive end bearing.
That's all that comes to mind at the moment.

Thanks for the answers, I thought it would perhaps function better at high speed and not fly apart - seems to be mainly cosmetic?

Hi Nigel and ALL,
To the best of my knowledge, the competition magnetos are built from higher quality materials as well as the differences noted here already,
The method of fixing the drive shaft to the armature is different or beefed up ?? its not a steel shaft just pressed throught the brass end piece as on the "ordinary" mag
On the ZB 34 I am working on it has a Wader magdyno, this has a different end at the points side which has a brass points plate and ring cam as opposed to the face cam on the normal magdyno, so its got a different type armature as well. (I havnt looked inside this mag tho)

Seems the standard k2f and k2fc are cousins with some upgrades as noted, the k2fR or racing mag is a somewhat different beastie. This has a s.s. One piece armature and platti points some vincent ones were even magnesium bodied, they were usually painted.most are a gold colour though not all.
