Hi, can anyone provide the correct model and spec for my A7 plunger; I understand I need a Amal 276 with float chamber on the RHS - the real issue is that there appears to be two types; one with a vertical float chamber and one with it off set by 7 degees. The cylinder head single inlet is 15/16th which does rise fractionally therefore I'm assuming I require the off set carb?

But I want to be sure before purchasing since I appear to building up a stock of parts that 'should' or 'nearly fit' or that belong to someone else bike much to someones annoyance! wink
Cheers in anticipation. smile

Try http://www.surreycycles.com/

Just a detail, with my carb with rhs float, I got flooding when bike is on side stand (quite low angle on my bike), have tried many a remedy without luck. Reverted to a carb with lhs float.

Hi A10gf,
Thanks for the info but is yours a plunger?
Problem with mine is: tried fitting a 376 mono with the float chamber on the left (Amal don't make a RHS one) and this fouls the air filter/battery box so is usable?

Mine also is fairly low when on the side stand.

Will keep you informed on things progress,

Hey up RR.

The 276 carb for the 1951/53 A7 is listed as 276EU/1DB.

The 276EU is a carb with 15/16 bore, a 4/061-140 main jet, a 4/061-107 needle jet, needle at number 3 position, 6/0524 throttle valve and a 1DB float chamber.

The 1DB float chamber has a standard arm and is mounted on the right hand side at 7 degrees.  It has a bottom feed with a banjo connection.

Hope this helps.

Hi Beezageezauk and many thanks for the comprehensive reply - most helpful smile
I've got the Beezer manual which lists the various carbs but doesn't mention the 7 degree tilt option - having bought a 376 on someone else's advice and found it doesn't fit (like many of my other purchases) I didn't really won't to plod out more cash on another ornament for the mantle piece! But you've confirmed what I've read and discussed elsewhere which is fantastic - now time to place that order for an early Xmas pressie!

Should be breathing life into the old girl again soon once I get the carb.

Many thanks Beezageezauk - your reply is much appreciated as is A10gf's.

If you're in the UK ring Amal and them to send you their free catalogue which contains the carburetter specifications for all Post War bikes with Amal carbs. They'll send it worldwide for £3.00.
