Bit windy down here

G'day all,
               Bit of a blow on Sat night. 3am woke to a loud crash, tree in back yard came down over bedroom. 3:15 power went out and while we were sitting in lounge room with candles at 3:45 the front one came down over our heads. OK down stairs to sit it out.
On day light it was obvious we were lucky. 40 year old house made with good old Ozzie hardwood withstood the impact very well. Quite a few around here lost their roofs.
Bikes all safe in garage. Been 3 days now with no power. Running small gennie for fridge & computer, still using candles. Hope it don't rain, a few holes in roof.

On the bright side, you'll have a couple of years off from oiling the railing once its replaced! bit more time for the bikes?

Lucky you don't live in the City, they'd have that generator turned off in less than 10 mins after a complaint to council from a "friendly" neighbour over the noise.

That's the wind that prompted me to search for my oil leaks and fix my seat; bikes still sitting in the garage with the tank off...
I was about to start pulling the rocker box off when I read yours and other comments on the rocker stud thread. Am now concerned about stripped threads, I'd rather go for a ride and have a couple of drips of oil to rub into my boots than have the bike off the road and the smell of oil on a hot barrel at the lights seems quite normal now, I even got to talk with a car load of young Girls as they explained to me that my bike was on fire, and did I have an extinguisher...

Likewise glad you are safe and, apparently, only out a couple of trees.

                     power came back on an hour ago, so now when SHE comes home from work she can resume house work and I can get back down to shed.
I have the top end off the '51 for a freshen up before Maitland. And try out my new copper rockerbox and head gaskets.

And here I was thinking we'd had a bit of wind here too.  Nothing to compare with yours.  Do you have a wood burner, fallen wood could come in handy.  We've got one but only small branches off round here for fuel!. 

Just let 'she' get her own bike like I have and then 'she' could legitimately tell you to continue with the housework while 'she' went down to the shed.

Jeepers Muskrat - it sounds as though you've had a tough time of it - what with the wind and SWMBO. Glad you're both OK .... and hoping you've got a bit of insurance for the house. Hope it doesn't rain before you get it fixed.

Seriously though, glad to see you are all safe and well and have survived the storm (weather!!!)
The cold front may take a little longer to clear

As others have said the worlds weather patterns are gone really weird
The other evening there was the equivalent of a tropical rainstorm here, completely black overhead and blue sky all around between the cloud and horizon, rain so hard it was shooting out over the gutters and hitting the ground 5 or 6 feet awaw from the house
water several inches deep gushing down the driveway

I know what you mean John OR, Winter used to be our dry time, the last few years it's getting wetter. I had been hoping for rain to test the new drain across the front of the shed to stop it flooding. Now with the roof I pray it doesn't.
I have gas heating & BBQ so wood no good to me, but some neighbours can use it.
She is happy now. I replaced the TV aerial so she can watch The Bold & Beautiful

Whoa,
It really hit you guys. That must have been Sund. morning, I thought that weather might have come up here
but it must have gone out to sea, just as well, we've had a few disasters up here, Tornado's & hail storms,
haven't long replaced all the roofs, house, w/shop & garage, + dent removal on my wifes car.
Must have been pretty scary when those gums came down, at least they're  out of the way now,
they're not good trees to have around in storms or fires. Plenty of fire wood for next year!!
