I am restoring a RGS and need a inner gearbox cover marked RRT2. I would consider a whole RRT2 gearbox if it is in decent condition and has the close ratio gears, and can be shipped for reasonable cost. Thanks

You want what??? LOL
Bring your money with you !!! Last one I saw went for $2K.
A lot cheaper to weld up a std and re-stamp. smile

I suspect that you will have more success in winning the lottery without actually bothering to buy a ticket. If you are looking for anything stamped RRT2 then multiply £100 by your telephone number, and don't forget to include your area code in that calculation. Sorry to be so negative, but thats the way it is.

OK thanks for the dose of reality. Sorry to be so out of touch. Didn't know these had made Rockinghorse droppings status!

Oh! and stamping a casting with RRT2 doesn't make it one either!

IMHO that is not a genuine RRT2 gear-case. I have researched the telltale identification of an RRT2 and the 4th image shows a small c/bore around the layshaft bearing in the main case. A genuine RRT2 has a much larger and deeper c/bore.

I believe this to be a STD case modified to appear as an RRT2 making it considerably less value than advertised. whistle

Yes John you are right, should have '4230 84' stamped near to the casting number. Looks even more likely this is not what it seems.

Interesting and quite disturbing. Caveat Emptor and all that but its quite possible that someone could stump up good money for this. Be interesting to know if its a genuine mistake on his part or he's pulling a fast one. Anyone think its a good idea to send the seller a message pointing out the above...there may be a genuine explanation?

Me being the cynic that I am. Do you think that you would get an honest answer? We are talking £££££££££££ motivation here!

Thank you all, this has been an interesting topic for me. Maybe these things aren't so rare after all? It will be interesting also to watch bidding on these items.

In truth absolutely no way of being certain, replace bush with needle roller - stamp back of case with part number and thats it; this is the easiest part to 'forge'.

In reality this is what the factory did so, in this case, does it matter?

The problem I have got with this kind of thing is that if this cover were installed in a STD g/box and mounted in a finished bike it is open to a far more serious 'fraud'. A bike fitted with a genuine RRT2 is worth considerable more than one with a STD box modified in this way.
