Mounting a video camera

Has anyone mounted a video camera on their bike? If you have how did you do this? I would like to capture some footage when I am out on my bike to view in the depths of winter.

I just made a plywood base, attached the VC to that with a G cramp arrangement then strapped the whole lot to a tank bag. Gave acceptable results (even better before reducing quality for youtube):

although as it slipped to one side some of the cornering looks somewhat lurid!

I've since bought a cheap device from Morgan Computers:

Ian. That is the kind of footage that I had in mind. I am very impressed by the lack of wind noise and by how audible the exhaust was. Were you using the cameras built in microphone?

Hi John,

I used an external microphone (just a cheap one I had lying around) gaffer taped to the back mudguard. I think the internal mic (oldish Sony DV camera) would have just picked up wind rush and nothing else.

My attempts were not too great on audio, in fact to compensate for wind noise the first one has a music overlay.
I knocked up and aluminium angle bracket which was tie wrapped at each end to the rising portion of the handlebars. I used the video mode on my Fuji still camera with quite reasonable result on picture but darned irritating rattle on the sound. I made a deflector piece which covers the camera microphone to reduce wind noise. I have posted these links elsewhere on the forum but here they are again, see what you think : -

Peter, If I can achieve footage comparable with yours I will be well pleased. My camera has no external mike input so some kind of wind noise suppressor will have to be devised. I shall now get on the case. Thank you for your help.
