if I sorn it now will I be hit for the back tax and fined for not sorning it sooner

I seem to remember something about this on another forum, that you wont get clobbered because your bike was off road long before SORN started. I might be wrong though best do some further checks.

[For those overseas. SORN = Statutory Off Road Notification]

Mmmm, possible. I have a BMW K100 in kit form, with a log book in my name and have never heard a peep from DVLA.

I think SORN applies once the vehicle has been taxed under the new regime, and applies regardless of the age of the vehicle.

The tax status for a vehicle which was untaxed before SORN came in is normally "Unlicensed" and this continues until you get a Historic Vehicle tax disc from a DVLA office. From then on, if you need to lay the bike up and the tax / MoT / insurance run out, you need to declare SORN.

I see, that's more understandable - thanks

Puts my project in the same situation as Mike's
