Fired up the bike & evrything ran fine for the first 3 days. Was feeling really chuffed, but alas tragedy struck. Found the exhaust rocker shaft doing a jig of its own with oil spewing out of the banjo. Stopped engine whipped off the rocker box & found a broken Exhaust rocker shaft. Examination of the sheared face showed it was an old break with the shaft attached by only 3 mm of metal which now failed. Didnt notice this as the shaft looked intact & Ive never had one fail on me before. Does anyone know where I can source one from? Push comes to a shove, I can make one here, but would like to avoid the hassle Anji

Gday Anji, I have had exactly the same happen to me about 25years ago. I couldnt work out how the shaft would brake, but it did. Maybe it droped at some stage and cracked or it was from an engine that blow up from racing or something. It was a hotted up engine it had very high compression pistons, ported out big valve head and 357 cam. I rode it for a little while with a broken shaft because it was my only transport at the time. I hadnt pulled the shaft out at that stage so I didnt know what was wrong. It leaked oil quite a bit but I had to get to work etc. I didnt have any spares at all then it was my first BSA. You see rocker boxes on ebay all the time with rockers and shafts for not alot of money. The shaft doesnt need to be new one a second hand one is fine. You're in India are you? If you dont see one on ebay soon let me know I have plenty of them. I even have new ones still in wax but I wont sell them. cheers Terry

Hello Anji! I just realized that it is the rocker SHAFT you need, I thought it was one of the rockers that broke. I should take a bit more time reading the posts prior to replying Sorry! Nevertheless, Mark has one listed: http://www.vintage-motorcycle.com/index.php?language=de&site=4&pid=11&id=403&gesucht=true&suche=normal&suchstring=rocker%20spindleNot particularly cheap, but as manufacturing one includes case hardening and grinding to size, probably the easier way. AFAIK the inlet and exh. shafts are identical. Cheers, Markus

Hi A10GF Thanks a million for the offer. Iam currently trying to procure one locally, failing which I shall take you up on the offer. By the way, I see you are from Norway.I used to visit Norway with my classmate, who was Norwegian, every Christmas from 1962 to 1964. His father was a doctor in some place called Nes Hedmark ?? I remember we used to drive across this frozen lake to reach his home. Have you been there? Temps wer minus 30 if I remember correctly, or atleast it felt so This Norwegian friend, Yan Hvidsten, used to ride a Road Rocket & I had a Super Rocket which I still have. Take care Anji

Hi Terryck Thanks once again. I have asked my daughter in the UK to try & get this. The only difference I can see on these shafts is that they dont have the lubricating groove along the length of the shaft. Attaching a photo om broken shaft Take care Anji

If you need it, you can have it for free incl shipping. The shafts on the srm and other sites, surely have the oil groove, maybe only not showing on the photo ? Read you have been in Norway, and yes it's cold in winter, inland, along the coast here much warmer. Been in Hedmark, just driving thru http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nes_(Hedmark). And I've been traveling in India in my younger days, Jaipur, Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta and more. Regards e

Sent it today, registered post, hope it will arrive within decent time. As for a new tour to India, would love to, but health is not the best regarding long travels, and the same with my motorcycle mates ! Wish I was 18 again... at that age we did nor realize how lucky we were !
Regards e
