I have read on some earlier threads that PTFE tape can be used over the threads on the tank and fuel tap fittings but there are two types of tape - water and gas and I am not sure which type to use. I have fitted the Dowty washers with rubber inserts under the flanges (difficult to find in imperial sizes)  but the petrol still seems to be weeping down the threads.
Is there a better sealant to use which is available in the UK?

Thanks

Jim

Jim,
I also tried PTFE tape, but that didn't seal the threads very long. What I use now are hemp fibre and sealing compound for gas pipes. Just ask your local plumber, usually you can get some for free there.

Have used Loctite 222, 569 would be a better choice from what I've been told, but 222 did the job.

PTFE, I would not use this.

Hi All,
I can recommmend "Dirko" sealant, it seems impervious to nearly everything

this is what the blurb says,

" Dirko grey 70 ml tube,  o/e engine sealer instant gasket, used many times on the assembly of face fit engine / components , The permanently elastic, temperature-resistant, universal sealing compound. This extremely versatile, high-strength sealing compound seals surfaces, gaps and cracks reliably, even where there is movement. Dirko’s viscosity and absolutely permanent elasticity rapidly stop leakage of oil, water and air. Even structural parts with hairline cracks are made functional again within minutes.Dirko is resistant to ozone, sunlight, extreme weather conditions, hot and cold water, seawater, greases, mineral oils (also with additives), aliphatic hydrocarbons, detergents and numerous chemicals. These advantages make Dirko equally suitable for use on its own, as a sealant applied from the exterior between surfaces without disassembly, or in combination with flat gaskets."

Nowt to do with me, just a happy user
Regards
