Split from http://www.audioworld.net/BSA/forum/index.php/topic,1770.0.htmlI started those off-topic comments, so am guilty. This split should arrange matters, please post any camera etc related comments here.Nice bikes, settings and surroundings, but imo your low resolution camera does not give full credit. 2nd pic, maybe avoid things 'growing out' from the seat\tank, and watch out for alien trash bins!

Congrats Rusty, I remember we talked cameras a while ago. Looking forward to some sharp shots. Same with Brian, our bikes deserves the best pictures (not talking about the number of megabites, pc-display use does not require that much), but no in-camera compression detail\color 'smudge', and good sharpness, contrast and color). crop from http://www.audioworld.net/BSA/forum/index.php/topic,1770.msg11739.html#msg11739

Adjusted for inflation rate in tech advances, it's 1000 years old, and made of stone, wood. leather and iron (ps, am not criticizing anybody, only looking for the best picture of an A, the best bike! )

Am sure the hp has served you very well, with lot's of pictures of good memories. The tech side of "whats wrong with my 2.5 megapixel camera", thinking a little about it, it's not actually the lack of megapixels or the lens, but the in-camera processing, picture chip and .jpg output of those days, produced lot's of fog and detail smudge.
Example, a 1.9 megapixel shot (1600x1200) from my quite modern cam, .jpg file only 0,27 Mb, but output is sharp and detailed.

Congrats with your new cam, latest Canon and only 15kg with tripod!? But given the right film, conditions and light, it's probably capable of much better pictures than many digicams. ------------ To Brian, pics looks good when viewed in small size, and I am not forgetting that it's beautiful bikes in beautiful surroundings.

just to add to the drift, my wife and I bought two olympus cameras a few years back, mine a 5MP and hers a 3MP. hers has a better lens, and higher zoom, but for some reason it actually takes astonishingly great pictures, while mine pretty much just sucks eggs... go figger. Nice bikes tho Brian!

Talking of pictures... It's nice to see that every poster on this thread has a good avatar pic! Let's hope that inspires the other members to do likewise.

Yes, stuff goes obsolete so quickly these days. I had to buy a secondhand memory card for my Olympus camera as the current "Type M" cards don't work in it and they stopped making the old sort.

Erling, you will be pleased to know I have got rid of my HP camera. For now I am using the other halfs Canon A400.
Which brings up the question, what to buy. I dont want a large camera like a SLR, too big and bulky and I am not that into photography (obviously!).
At this stage I am eying off a A480 Canon Powershot. 10 megapixel, zoom lens etc. For me there are a couple of very good points.
1. There cheap, about $200 AUS 2. Small, will easily fit in pocket 3. Point and shoot, dont have to be a expert to work one.
Now I know there are a million different cameras on the market with a million different features but these look ok for the amatuer like me.
What do you reckon ?

Picture is cropped, then scaled down to 1800x1100.

Tip for bike-pictures (and everything else, except night pictures of sparrows 200 m away :O) Canon s90, have not tried it yet, but has some unique specs, looks like a pocket-gem. http://www.dcviews.com/_canon/s90x.htm http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/s90.htm ------------- Edit, now superseded by the S95. Another great cam is the G12. Of course, any modern DSLR will be better under most conditions, but size\weight\lens prize matters a lot in many instances.

Erling, i have decided to rekindle an old passion, in the shape of a digital SLR (the first since my zenit e in the seventies!) I will, no doubt, be practising with a lot of bike photo shoots, `cause i`ll`need a lot of practise! btw it`s a Canon eos 1000d, which from my research, would seem to be a good choice (hopefully) for a beginner. happy snapping, Richie.
