Hi folks

Just joined up so figured I'd introduce myself - this is the first tech forum I've joined where there is a threat of excommunication if you don't contribute regularly. Unfortunately I have little to contribute, but plenty of questions; I'll introduce these under separate headings in due course.

As an overview my bike is a s/arm iron head A10 - nominally 1958, but I suspect it's a complete bitza. I've had it since 1979 (yeah '79) in which year I both bought it and had it expire under me. Back in 2001 I pulled all the bits together (I'd stripped it all down back in the day) and vanned it out to a restorer. Over the following years I had work done in £500 chunks when I could afford it. It was returned as a running rolling chassis. Last year in a burst of enthusiasm I got the bike MOT'd and back on the road. I managed around 120 miles before I was overwhelmed with oil leaks. This last Winter I tackled various issues and also the cosmetics - new wheel rims, chroming and powder coating on various items, tank respray. With the oil leaks sorted and a new MOT I was back on the road. Now with 350 miles on the clock (still running in) I'm sidelined again.

Postings on various maladies to follow in the tech section. But I can add that I'm desperately disappointed with the bike.

You're welcome, that's why we're here.

ps, 'where there is a threat of excommunication if you don't contribute regularly', not the case at all, there's only a (very  smile) clear message about not joining for those with no intention of posting (presenting themselves). See http://www.audioworld.net/BSA/forum/index.php/topic,292.0.html 'Seen from the admin side, no posts = possible lurking spammer / hacking attempt in the waiting / attempts at extracting email lists / password hacking / illegal use of PM  etc. 0 posts = 0 membership. ' Running a forum is no joke these days.

Welcome to the forum Cyclo. We are all in the same boat trying to keep our As on the road. I have been a member of this forum since last November and, like me, I am sure you will find it an unparalleled source of information and an opportunity to share stories and experiences with other members all around the world.
Where abouts are you in the SE?

welcome cyclo

ive had my a7 since about 79 too, will have to check logbook for exact date but its around that time and im going for its first resto

you can spend a lot of cash with a restorer and not get the bikre you want so its best to do it yourself and just farm the bits out that are beyond your experiance

persevere with this bike as they are probably one of the finest bikes made , my mate restored a goldie and its a pure joy to ride as everything is as it was when it left the factory, they were a supurb bike when new

thats the way I want mine to ride, so its buckets of perseverence and care rather than buckets of cash

Well thanks for the warm welcome chums. A little more background on this one ...

At the time the bike went bang I didn't have two beans to rub together. I pulled it down to the last nut and bolt and there didn't seem to be a single component that wasn't worn out. It then got transported in boxes through several locations down the years, such that I was none too sure what might have gone missing in the meantime and no recollection of how it might go back together either. Therefore it went out to a restorer to at least get the broad basis of the bike back together.

In the meantime I've been riding mostly Guzzis with the occasional Japanese bike here and there. The Guzzis I've tended to work on myself, and I'd have to say that they are a delight compared with the old BSA, but there you go.

Also as an aside I don't tend to do much riding for pleasure in the UK any more, I mostly head into France for that. Being located in central Essex may have something to do with that - roads too busy, too many cameras.

Current stable:

The A10
'06 Guzzi Griso (G11)
'89 1200 Sportster (a recent acquisition though I now seem to be getting along with it)
'80 Guzzi V50 (owned from new - my Winter bike, it has a screen and hot grips)
'67 Bantam
'59 James Commodore (with the Piatti engine - yippee)
