Erling,

Did the allowed photo size get reduced from 800kb to 500kb? I wish there were a simple way we could contribute to fund the space it takes to hold larger, high-resolution photos. I think others might agree, but not sure.

Thanks for your concern. Ok, the details:

Actually, it has to do with me doing frequent ftp backups of the entire forum, takes a looooong time now, due to attachments folder. But, approx 95% of uploaded pictures are already below 500k anyway, that's why this was choosen, a real life limit. Anything above this is not neccesary for it's intended use.

So, it just needs a little work with very basic editing before posting (crop, resize, sharpen a bit, back down a little on the jpg quality) and the pics will be small in kb, load fast, and still look very, very good for onscreen display. If anybody wants a full size like several mb's for printing or other use, contact the poster and ask for the original over email, or the poster should post a simple link to a picturehosting website.

Examples below:
attachment 1 is 2000 x 1334, but only 420 kb
attachment 2 is 1200 x 800, only 235 kb

More than large enough, and good quality for any screen use (I do not think anybody will find any practical lack of resolution).

With max jpg quality this pic could be no less that 6000 kb for the same 2000x1334, and nobody would have spotted any practical difference versus the 420 kb version ! In the beginnings of the forum, some were actually posting mb sizes like that, so the need for file size limit arised.

Very often, quality has less to do with file size than with initial picture quality, a movement-blurred + out of focus 15 mb pic will look bad anyway, but very big !

But ok, size is raised to 600kb, which should do the job in all circumstances (but still may imply the poster prepares the picture as mentioned above).

pm me or ask questions here if you need help with pictures.

Here is a free program that is very good and easy to use: http://photofiltre.en.softonic.com
